Statement of Purpose
The Arts & Culture Alliance, in association with Cohen Communications Group, seeks local artists interested in creating indoor artwork at the new Hyatt Place Farragut Hotel, located at 530 S. Gay Street, Knoxville, TN 37902. Selected artworks will have high visibility and will be prominently displayed within the lobby and meeting room areas.

Selection Process
Finalists will be chosen based on their examples of current work, experience, and how well their proposals meet the stated criteria for subject matter and size. The total budget for this project is $50,000.

Eligibility
Open to all media except video. Open to artists 18 years of age or older. Priority will be given to artists living in Greater Knoxville.

There are eleven total opportunities (A – K) for commissioned artwork, and artists may apply for as many opportunities as they wish. As much as possible, the proposed artwork should reflect the following descriptions for each location:

Opportunity* (A – K) / Wall Dimensions / Description
A – 13’ W x 12’ H – Topographically-inspired 3D mural or mosaic of Admiral Farragut.
B – 14’ W x 5’ H – Gallery wall of the history of Admiral Farragut through a series of portraits or naval details.
C – 5’ W x 6’ H – Map-like art element of Knoxville/Smoky Mountains.
D – 6’ W x 4’ H – Smoky Mountain inspired artwork for Ballroom Location 1.
E – 4’ W x 4’ H – Smoky Mountain inspired artwork for Ballroom Location 2.
F – 8’ W x 4’ H – Smoky Mountain inspired artwork for Meeting Room 1.
G – 6’ W x 4’ H – Smoky Mountain inspired artwork for Meeting Room 2.
H – 4’ W x 4’ H – Smoky Mountain inspired artwork for Board Room.
I – 3.5’ W x 5’ H – Highly dimensional/textural piece or repurposed landscape art that is inspired by location (map, geography, topography, etc.) for pre-function corridor.
J – 4’ W x 4’ H – Highly dimensional/textural piece or repurposed landscape art that is inspired by location (map, geography, topography, etc.) for pre-function corridor.
K – 3’ W x 5’ H – Modern or graphically-inspired Smoky Mountain piece or oil painting depicting Smoky Mountains to transition seamlessly into millwork wainscoting for pre-function corridor.

Entry Procedure
There is no entry fee.

Artists should submit:
1) Completed application
2) Artist CV or resume (PDF)
3) Three samples of current work (JPG or PDF)
4) Images, sketches, and/or detailed description of proposal for any of the eleven opportunities* (JPG or PDF)

All files (except for application) should be sent as JPG or PDF.

*Please identify files related to the eleven opportunities with the appropriate opportunity letter (A – K) and last name of artist (for example, A.Smith.jpg or A.Smith.pdf).

Schedule
Materials due to Alliance office by: Friday, June 30, 2017
Acceptance notification sent: Mid- to late-July
Completion of work and installation: September 1, 2017 (goal date)
