Statement of Purpose
The Arts & Culture Alliance’s National Juried Exhibition was developed to provide a forum for artists to compete on a national scale and display their work. Approximately 40-50 fine art works encompassing all styles and genres from both emerging and established artists will be selected by the juror, Paul Collins, for exhibition in the main gallery of the beautifully-restored Emporium Center at 100 S. Gay Street, Knoxville’s downtown arts anchor location. The Emporium is free and open to the public Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Saturday, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Paul Collins is a multidisciplinary artist and curator from Nashville, Tennessee. Paul makes drawings, paintings and sculpture that combine humor, tactility and observation to examine the world around us. Paul has an MFA from Yale and has been a resident at Skowhegan, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and the Vermont Studio Center. Paul is an enthusiastic collaborator and has curated shows or organized artist projects for a wide range of artists including James Surls, William Pope.L, Dahlia Elsayed, Betty Woodman, Paul Jacobsen, Mala Iqbal, Kenny Scharf, David Humphrey, Charles Long, Michael Kreuger, Jason Rogenes, Kim Dickey, and Takashi Nakazato. Paul lives in Nashville, Tennessee and works as Gallery Director and Assistant Professor of Art at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville:

At least $1,000 in cash awards will be presented at the exhibition’s Opening Reception on February 7, 2014 at the Emporium from 5:00-9:00 PM. Awards include a $500 Best in Show, two $250 Juror’s Citations, and a cash award for Best Work by an Alliance member. Exhibiting artists will receive a catalog of the exhibition. Awards are as designated by the juror, whose decision is final.

Sales & Commission
Every effort is made to promote sales. All sales are handled by the Arts & Culture Alliance, who retains a 25% commission (20% for cash and check sales). The Alliance assumes that sales tax is included in the price of every piece of artwork. The Artist is responsible for remitting applicable sales tax to the state of Tennessee Sales and Use Tax Department. The receipt of funds from sales, the retention of commissions, and the disbursement of monies to the Artist will be handled by the Alliance. Sold works are to remain in the exhibition until its official closing date and time, unless an alternate arrangement can be reached that is mutually agreeable to the Alliance, the Artist, and the purchaser of the artwork.

Works may not have previously exhibited in any Alliance exhibition at the Emporium Center or in any Alliance satellite gallery (including Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport). Entries must be original works completed within the last two years in the following categories: 2-D (painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, photography) and 3-D (sculpture of all media). The maximum allowed size is 120” x 120” in any direction including frame or stand (must fit through a 60” x 120” doorway). Weight is not to exceed 100 lbs. unless special arrangements are made. Works must be suitably framed/mounted and WIRED (to fit over a 5” wide hook) for installation to match the current hanging system (Walker Display). The juror reserves the right to disqualify any work not suitably presented or that varies from the submitted image.
