Our ad in the Knoxville News Sentinel Preview section The Arts & Culture Alliance is delighted to sponsor the third annual Emporium Holiday Extravaganza on December 1 & 2: a two-day celebration of handmade gifts, live performances, and holiday cheer in downtown Knoxville! The Arts & Culture Alliance ignites Knoxville’s holiday spirit by hosting an enticing array of unique holiday gifts from thirty local artists, museums, and historic homes as well as current works by some of Knoxville’s finest performing arts groups. Handmade gifts include: ornaments (brush animals, hand-blown glass, bell, and hand-wired), linens, greeting cards, glassware, ceramics, sculpture, hand-painted silk scarves, silver hand-made jewelry, rocking chairs, lamps, tables, ikebana flower bowls and art for the garden, fused glass pieces, books by local authors, wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery, drawings, paintings (watercolors, pastels, acrylics, pencil, and Japanese ink), and gift shop items from local museums and historical homes. The Extravaganza continues until 9pm Friday evening with holiday entertainment, carolers, sweet treats, and warm drinks for merry-makers attending the Christmas parade down Gay Street passing in front of the Emporium Center. Free parking is available in the Jackson Avenue lot (just around the corner from the Emporium) on Friday and Saturday. The Alliance invites the public and downtown workers to browse the merchandise of artists from 11am until 9pm on Friday, December 1, and downtown restaurant, The Lunchbox, provides lunch fare between 11am-1pm. On Saturday, December 2, from 11am-6pm, the Emporium Center again hosts a variety of festive activities. Hear performances by "The Delights" String Trio of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and the Knoxville Chamber Chorale as well as watch contemporary dance performances while shopping for unusual handmade holiday gifts. Proud radio sponsor for the second year in a row is EZ 88.3FM who will do a remote during part of the Extravaganza.
The Alliance will also sell Culture Cash: cash-equivalent certificates redeemable with more than forty of Knoxville’s arts and culture organizations, including the Knoxville Museum of Art, Knoxville Opera, Blount Mansion, the Tennessee Theatre, and more. Culture Cash supports the work of local artists and arts and culture organizations while performing as a flexible gift of a night out in Knoxville. [updated 11/09/06] ------------------------ |
