National Juried Exhibition of 2007 Winners Announced
Four awards totaling $1,400 have been presented to local artists as part of the Arts & Culture Alliance National Juried Exhibition of 2007.  The awards ceremony and public reception will take place on First Friday, January 4, from 5-9pm at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville.

The National Juried Exhibition, presented yearly by the Arts & Culture Alliance, features works in the areas of acrylic, charcoal, oil, pastel, watercolor, prints, photography, mixed media, bronze, wood, hand-weaving, and steel by 30 artists from six states.  It will be on display December 14, 2007 through January 11, 2008.

All 30 pieces in the exhibit, including the award winners, were chosen by juror Nandini Makrandi Jestice, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga and Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  Jestice viewed more than 200 submissions to select the show.  “It was very difficult to select from such a wide range of creative expression and talent.  The Arts & Culture Alliance should take great pride in offering artists of this region the opportunity to compare their work to that of others throughout the nation,” she said.

The first place award of $650 was awarded to Michael Wessel of Savannah, Georgia, for "Wednesday, November 26, 2005".

The second place award of $450 was awarded to Marion Randolph of Oak Ridge for "Ascension".

The third place award of $200 was awarded to Denise Stewart-Sanabria of Knoxville for "They Grew Corn".

The honorable mention award, a $100 gift certificate to Jerry’s Art-a-Rama, was awarded to Chris McAdoo, for "Still at Work".

All of the works on display are for sale and may be purchased through the close of the exhibition.  The Emporium Center is open to the public Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.  The Emporium will be closed for the holidays from Monday, December 24 through Tuesday, January 1.  The Emporium is located at 100 S. Gay Street in downtown Knoxville.  For more information, please call (865) 523-7543 or visit www.knoxalliance.com.
