The Arts & Culture Alliance receives the 2006 Community Service of the Year PAULY Award
Knoxville Tourism Alliance presented the "PAULY" Awards at the annual Knoxville Tourism Awards and Scholarship Luncheon Thursday, May 11, at the Knoxville Convention Center.  These awards, named in honor of Paul Sherbakoff, a leader in Knoxville tourism, are awarded to deserving individuals and businesses in the tourism industry – each with their unique story of accomplishments.

The Arts & Culture Alliance received the Community Service Award, which recognizes programs designed to provide service and demonstrate responsiveness to the local community.  Examples include campaigns to benefit local or national service organizations, non-profits and charities or service to any part of the community through special and joint undertakings with community groups for the benefit of the area.

The following text was read at the award luncheon:
"Gathering and coordinating information and images from 24 area museums and historic homes, the Arts & Culture Alliance developed several promotions to create awareness and to increase visitation to the Knoxville area.  The promotion of the 2006: "Year of the Museum" has included partnerships with the Knoxville News Sentinel for a year-long series of articles highlighting one specific museum in each Sunday edition of the paper.  With support from a Knox County Community Development Grant, the Arts & Culture Alliance printed "The Museums of Knoxville" brochures for distribution to Knoxville and surrounding communities.  Their partnership with East Tennessee Public Television produced 30-second promotions featuring each museum.  By partnering with the Attractions Channel, many of the museums purchased a compelling cooperative two-minute ad that runs 24 hours a day in more than 15 hotels in the greater Knoxville area."
