(03/26/2010/Knoxville) – The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville announce a call for entries for the “75th Anniversary Commemorative Exhibition,” a juried exhibition developed to display artwork inspired by the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in celebration of its 75th Anniversary season (2010-2011).  The selected art will be exhibited at the Emporium Center for Arts & Culture in downtown Knoxville from October 1-29, 2010.

The deadline for entries to be postmarked is Friday, August 20, 2010.  Artists may attend a private KSO rehearsal at the Tennessee Theatre on Wednesday, May 19, at 7:30 PM to receive direct inspiration for their artwork.  To attend a rehearsal, artists MUST contact Stephanie Burdette at 865-521-2317 or Stephanie@knoxvillesymphony.com.  No flash photography will be allowed.

Artists may submit unlimited entries which must be original works created within the last two years in the following categories: Painting, Graphic Arts, Photography, and 3-D.  The nonrefundable entry fee is $10 per entry (Arts & Culture Alliance members pay $7).  Prizes include $250 Best of Show with possible display at the Masterworks Concerts in the Tennessee Theatre lobby on October 21-22, 2010.

Carl Gombert, Associate Professor of Art History at Maryville College, will jury the works.  Dr. Gombert was born in Brimfield, Ohio in 1959. He started taking painting lessons at the age of 14 with money he earned delivering newspapers. He earned a BFA in Drawing from the University of Akron and an MFA in Painting from Kent State University. He worked as a stagehand before pursuing a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts at Texas Tech University. He has exhibited in more than 100 shows throughout the country, and since 1993 has taught painting, drawing and art history at Maryville College in Tennessee. His work has recently been acquired by the Mabel Larson Drawing Collection at Austin Peay State University, the Avampato Museum (Charleston, WV), the Evansville Art Museum and the Mobile Museum of Art.
