appalachian arts gallery & Community craft centerAppalachian Arts began as the Community Craft Center in 1970 in the back room of an old grocery store that once sat across the street from where the shop and center are now located. The gallery is described as "unpretentious, and the artists aren’t afraid to say the word 'bargain' out loud”. Traditional crafts are still produced at the center, but the shop doesn’t limit itself to hand-carved spoons and hand-loomed hearthrugs. The locally produced work offered at the shop includes photography and Japanese origami. Work for sale at the center includes pottery, weaving, quilts, baskets, woodcarving, stained glass, jewelry, quilling, homemade soaps, dolls, toys, and more. Prices begin at just a few dollars and top out at around $450. Hours: Mon-Sat 10-6; Sun 1-5.
