McClung Museum: Can You Dig It?
Sun Oct 1, 12-4 PM
1327 Circle Park Drive on the UT campus

The McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture is excited to announce its annual event, in celebration of International Archaeology Day. This free, family-friendly program offers the public a unique chance to delve into the field of archaeology and connect with experts through a day of experiential learning. Attendees will dig deep into the past through educational activities, crafts, and displays led by University of Tennessee, Knoxville researchers, professors, and graduate students. The event will feature a wide range of engaging options, including cave art painting, hunter-gatherer games, and the chance to craft pottery, perfumes, and much more. Traditionally observed in mid-October, International Archaeology Day raises awareness about the study of archaeology through a multitude of events and programs. In celebration of the day, the McClung Museum has partnered with professional archaeologists and units across the UT campus to bring the celebration of International Archaeology Day to the Knoxville community. This year, Dr. Alison Damick, associate curator of environmental archaeology at the McClung Museum, will share insights into cutting-edge technologies utilized in archaeology and discuss ongoing research conducted at the museum.

Visitors are also encouraged to visit the Community Gallery and experience the current exhibition Echoes from the Earth: Student Research from the Archaeology Labs. Curated by Damick, the exhibition showcases how UT students utilize the museum’s laboratory facilities as a part of their training and scholarship. “Can You Dig it?” is free to attend, but registration is required.
