The WordPlayers: Acting Classes for Young People
DATES: June 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24
CLASS SIZE: 6-12 students
FAIRY TALE THEATRE (Ages 6-8): Students will learn the basics of acting by creating their own version of a familiar fairy tale. At the last session, students will put on their show for family and friends. There will also be theatre games and made-up scenes to exercise creativity.
TIME: 10:00-11:00 AM, FEE: $90
MAKE-A-SCENE (Ages 9-11): Students will read and perform scenes and monologues from famous plays. The students will choose their favorite ones to perform on the last day. There will also be drama games, exercises, and improvisation to develop acting skills.
TIME: 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, FEE: $120
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Ron Solomon has worked in theatre and puppetry for a long time. He appeared as a professional actor at the Ordway Theatre in St. Paul, MN; the Alley Theatre, A.D. Players, Theatre Under the Stars in Houston, TX; and as a guest soloist with the Houston Symphony. Ron has been a children’s pastor in three churches, written three plays and a Christian Sesame Street-like program for children’s church called Caraway Street, using puppets and acting. Twelve years ago, Ron created a Christian children’s theatre in Pearland, TX call “Kids’ Backporch Productions.” He taught acting classes there and directed 65 plays and musicals. Ron now lives in Wears Valley with his wife, Chris. Most recently, Ron directed four plays with youth at The Creative Theater in Pigeon Forge, TN and played Daddy Warbucks in their production of “Annie.”
